From the Principal's Desk:

I would like to take this time to Welcome you to the 2010-2011 school year. This promises to be a wonderful year at Tri-County. The summer has been spent preparing the building for the upcoming year. In addition to the usual cleaning that takes place, there are some major changes. The first is the creation of a new Metal Fabrication Shop, as well as the relocation and refurbishing of the Facilities Management Shop.

Tri-County has developed an excellent reputation for strong academics, as well as a variety of excellent vocational programs. The administration is very proud of the accomplishments of our students. In addition to the educational programs, Tri-County also strives to create a positive climate and a safe school. I would like to take this time to discuss with you some actions we have taken to be proactive in addressing the safety of our students.

The first is the installation of additional cameras throughout the school. We have also created a Tip Line, which will allow people to make reports of any instances of drug or alcohol use or possession in the school. The Tip Line is not designed to be an emergency call in line, but to provide information so that we may be made aware of any problems in the school and that we can act accordingly. The Tip Line will be checked each school day, once in the morning and once in the afternoon.  The phone number for the Tip Line is 508-528-8679.

As many of you are aware, Massachusetts has adopted a new Bullying Prevention Law (posted on the Tri-County web site) and the School Committee has adopted a policy to address harassment, bullying, cyber-bullying, and hazing. The policy is included in your child’s Student Handbook and I encourage you to read the policy with your child.  After you have reviewed the Student Handbook, please make sure that you and your child sign it and return it to Tri-County. Bullying Prevention will be a focus this year at Tri-County. Faculty trainings, parent workshops, and student assemblies will be held to inform people of the law and of the expectations for behavior at Tri-County.

I am asking for your assistance regarding the use of cell phones in school. As you know the use of technology has a tendency to promote harassing behaviors, which can lead to bullying.  The school rule is clear, students may not have their phones on during the school day and if they are caught with the phone in sight the phone is taken away and a parent will be asked to come in to the school to retrieve it.

In closing, I want to thank you for choosing Tri-County. The success of your child is built on a partnership, which includes school personnel, parents, and the student.  Let’s have a great year.
